THE USE OF PSYCHOTROPIC DRUGS DURING PREGNANCY AND NURSING

Abstract

|
Pregnant or nursing women are recommended to avoid taking any psychotropic drugs because of their potential risks to the developing fetus. Hodaever clinically´in patients with severe or persistent symptoms that do not respond to non biological measures, psychotropic drugs may become necessary. In prescribing psychotropic agents to pregnant or nursing women, the risks and benefits for administering drugs must be discussed.
The authors briefly discussed various potenial risks of individual psychotropic drugs and guidelines for prescribing psychotropic agents during pregnancy and lactation.
